PHI SiC Heating Element "EREMA"
Silicon carbide heating elements from EREMA of Japan, rated to 1600°C surface temperature and producing five to ten times the heat output of nichrome wire per unit of surface area.
EREMA elements are made from recrystallised high-purity silicon carbide. They were the first silicon carbide heating elements produced in Japan and have been in continuous manufacture since 1927.
The material handles surface temperatures up to 1600°C and delivers roughly five to ten times the heat output per unit of surface area that nichrome wire manages. That density is what makes it practical to bring a chamber up to temperature without a large element array. The elements are chemically stable, resist thermal shock, and run silently with no combustion products. Where the atmosphere is aggressive, coated versions protect against water vapour and corrosive gas.
In aluminium melting and holding furnaces the same elements work as immersion heaters, sealed inside a protection tube and placed directly in the melt. Prolific assembles these in Thailand. Heating the metal directly rather than the space above it cuts energy use, and it's easier to install and maintain than a radiant system.

Prolific assembles these at its own facility in Thailand. EREMA elements have run in furnaces from several different makers, and the protection tube material is chosen to match the melt rather than supplied as a single standard part.
Heating the metal directly rather than the atmosphere above it is what produces the saving. There is no gradient to fight, so less energy goes in, and the assembly is simpler to install and to maintain than a radiant system.
